JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell confirms the body of a missing Vancleave teen was found off Jim Ramsey Rd. around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. Deputies are treating this as a homicide investigation.

Deputies who were searching for 16-year-old Cliff Allyn found his body in a wooded area just a few hundred yards from where he was last seen.

“We’ve been working on this hard all day. We've been getting bits of information and following leads all day long,” said Ezell. “It didn’t turn out the way we had hoped.”

Dr. Barry Amacker, Superintendent of the Jackson County School District, wrote a heartfelt Facebook post about the loss of the Vancleave High School student.

Ezell says a report was immediately put through the National Crime Information Center, and that law enforcement had been working on the case since the report was made. He also noted that investigators are not releasing how Cliff died at this time, and that they will continue to follow up on leads.

"It's terrible. I mean, 16-year-old out spring break this week," said Ezell. "And what I'll say is we'll work this thing extremely hard, professional and hopefully we can get some resolution to this."
