BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Local amateur golfers were all smiles during the C Spire Pro-Am getting a chance to play with pro golfers like..Scott McCarron, who has won over 13-million dollars in his PGA career.
Even Ole Miss head football coach Hugh Freeze and Mississippi State head coach Dan Mullen were looking forward to play with world-class golfers
Mullen said, "The experience to come play with guys, legends with the Champions Tour that are household names in the world is so special and it's great to have in Mississippi."
Coach Freeze played along side Esteban Toledo. Before Freeze hit the links we discussed Ole Miss football and the return of Chad Kelly, one of the top quarterbacks in the nation.
"Going into the season you feel like you've got a quarterback that's got experience and has had success, makes you feel more confident in your team, "stated Freeze. "In this league quarterback play is huge so we're very excited he's coming back."
I asked Coach Hugh Freeze if could comment on a Tweet St. Stanislaus head football coach Bill Conides made on Twitter on Wednesday concerning Ole Miss football recruiting. Conides said he was upset with Ole Miss for not recruiting his players. Coach Freeze said he doesn't know why Conides is upset because Ole Miss hasn't finished evaluating those players.
There's no question that Chad Kelly will be the starting quarterback for Ole Miss for the second consecutive season. At Mississippi State, the quarterback race is wide-open.
Before Mullen teed-off a long side Bernhard Langer, he said Nick Fitzgerald, Elijah Staley, Damian Williams and Nick Tiano are all in the Bulldogs quarterback hunt.
"It could be a race that cold not just go through the spring but into training camp that who is going to be the guy that will put us in the best position to win football games, "said Mullen.
With the Pro-Am's coming to an end, the pros now take aim on the 2016 Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic beginning tomorrow morning at ten.
