Bond reduction denied for man charged in Gulfport shooting

PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - A judge has refused to reduce the bond for the man charged in a fatal shooting in Gulfport. Shaquil Sands, 21, has been in the Harrison County Adult Detention Center since late February facing murder and aggravated assault charges.

Judge Albert Fountain has refused to lower his $1.5 bond.

According to testimony from a detective with the Gulfport Police Department, officers were called to Robindale Rd. on Feb. 27 in reference to a shooting victim in the road.

They found a deceased man identified as Richard Doby. Another man, Dijon McCorkle, was found with multiple gunshot wounds.

Detectives told the judge Sands shot the victims after an altercation, because McCorkle threatened to get his gun.

Sands' case will now be turned over to a grand jury.
