BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Excitement is brewing for Biloxi's first Major League baseball game in decades. The Milwaukee Brewers are coming to the coast, and your chance to watch them play against our very own Biloxi Shuckers is this weekend.
The Shuckers staff is in full preparation mode. The crack of the bat will be heard on American Star Field in a matter of days. But, there's a lot that has to happen first.
"We've been getting ready for it and now the week's finally here and we're ready to go," said ticket sales executive Kevin Trembley.
The ticket window is staying busy, and Kevin Trembley said the excitement is palpable.
"You can just feel the buzz in the office. There's a different type of energy this week," said Trembley.
Why? The Biloxi Shuckers are hosting their own Major League affiliate, the Milwaukee Brewers for a pre-season exhibition game. The new general manager for the Shuckers, Chuck Arnold, is making sure the stadium is ready for a potentially sold out crowd.
"First time in 78 years so we are extremely excited about it and you know we've had such a great response and hopefully the weather is looking good for Saturday and we look forward to having a great crowd out here," said Arnold.
According to Arnold, his job is to make sure the fan experience is the best it can be. He said that's why several new promotions are being offered, including a new kidzone, where the young Shuckers fans can let loose, as well as a brand new Shuckers mascot.
Trembley said he's most excited about the Brewers offering an autograph signing before the big game Saturday.
"You knew their names, you got to meet them and some the fans were like yeah, man, I got to hang out with that guy talk to him before the games and I see him playing major league baseball on TV," said Trembley.
Trembley said around half of the tickets were still available Tuesday morning for Saturday's game. According to Trembley, several Brewers players will be available for autographs before the game. Gates open at 11. The players will be available from 11:05 to 11:30. Each fan is limited to one item to get signed. Then the fans are invited to watch batting practice after the signing.
