NEW ORLEANS, LA (WLOX) - After the 2015 season ended there was no question that the New Orleans Saints needed to shore up the defense. So far during free agency Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis has been doing just that.
On Monday the Saints announced that they have signed unrestricted free agent defensive tackle Nick Fairley to a one-year contract.
The 6-foot-4, 308-pound Fairley has 161 career tackles (98 solo), 14 sacks, four passes defensed, four forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
The Mobile, Alabama native played his college football at Auburn and was drafted in the first round by the Detroit Lions in 2011, the 13th overall pick.
Last season Fairley played in 15 games with the Rams and recorded a career-high 63 tackles (31 solo), a split sack, two passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
