Seniors Learn How To Avoid Being Victims

Senior Citizens in Jackson County got a lesson in crime Thursday. They attended the second annual SALT forum at the Gautier Convention Center.

SALT, or Seniors and Law Enforcement Together, is committed to helping senior citizens. The forum was designed to educate seniors on how to spot schemes, and what steps they can take to protect themselves.

Law enforcement officials say senior citizens are a target for criminals.

"Seniors are apparently picked to be the victims, the easiest prey," Pascagoula Police Sgt. Ronnie Castille said. "It continues, grows, every year, so some efforts has to be put in place to help protect them."

Sgt. Castille says between three to five seniors report being victims of schemes on a monthly basis.
