BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Police say an argument sparked a shooting in a Biloxi neighborhood Monday night. A young man was shot and killed around the corner from his home.
"He's an awesome person and an awesome friend and a great neighbor. He is amazing," Belinda Olsen said as she showed WLOX a short video on Facebook.
Olsen posted the video of Leonardo Deandre White hours after learning that her 22-year-old friend was killed Monday night.
"It's not fair. It's wrong. I just saw him and then ten minutes later, I hear that. Of course, I was very shocked," said Olsen.
Other neighbors described White as a quiet, polite young man. They say he lived in a house on Haise Street.
"I was very upset. He was very respectable to me. He always respect me. He always spoke to me and said hi," said Mary Strickland.
Biloxi police say White was shot in the leg during an argument on Delauney Street around 10:30 pm.
The injured man was found outside the Corner Station convenience store at Lameuse and Division Streets.
"I looked out the window and I saw a man lying on the ground," said the store owner Xinh Doan.
Doan said he had closed the store for the night when he noticed a lot of commotion in the parking lot.
"I saw about five or six police cars. I saw the officers and a couple of ladies bandaging the man's leg. I thought he had been injured in a car accident," said Doan.
Doan learned the man died later at Merit Health from a woman who came into the store Tuesday morning.
"She was crying hysterically. I asked her why she was crying, and she told me her husband just died. Her husband came in every day to buy drinks and other things," said Doan.
Police say the suspect, 27-year-old Jesse King of Biloxi, turned himself in Tuesday morning. He is now charged with White's murder.
"He loves his nieces and nephews. He did not have any kids and he was great with children," said Olsen.
As she watched the video again, Olsen said, "Oh, my God, it breaks my heart."
Jesse Marquerius King is being held in the Harrison County Jail with no bond, because he was out on bond on a 2015 felony drug charge.
