Fred Couples withdraws from 2016 MS Gulf Resort Classic

HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Fred Couples has withdrawn from the 2016 Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic. Couples, who won the event in 2012, was forced to pull out because of back issues.

"We are going to miss Fred Couples playing in the Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic this year," said tournament director Steve Nieman. "Freddie is a tremendous player and a proud champion on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He has expressed his disappointment in not being able to compete in our tournament, which is one of his favorites on the PGA TOUR Champions schedule. We look forward to hosting him next year."

The field, which features 26 of the Top 30 on the current Charles Schwab Cup Money List.
