Gov. Ronnie Musgrove says the job losses in Jackson County are a direct result of a softening economy not only in Mississippi, but across the country.
The governor says the layoffs in Moss Point and other businesses around the state are exactly what he feared would happen when he realized Mississippi's economy is growing at only one percent instead of the four percent the state's budget was based on.
"What we have to do is we have to spend real dollars within real estimates and not inflated figures, because all of that has an affect," Gov. Musgrove said. "This is evidence of what we have talked about in a sluggish, slowing economy, so we're going to work very hard to turn that economy back around in our state and nationally and make a difference for our people."
