It should be an exciting baseball game with Southern Miss looking for its first victory at MGM Park after dropping a 4-2 decision to South Alabama earlier this month.
The Golden Eagles (16-5) opened Conference USA play this past weekend and beat Marshall two games to one. The series win was the fourth-straight series league victory dating back to last season and Southern Miss has won 12 of its last 13 regular-season conference games.
The Green Wave (13-7) is ranked Number 30 in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30, after winning two of three games at Texas. Tulane has won five of the last seven games.
Graduate transfer Jake Sandlin, who earned C-USA Co-Hitter of the Week honors, leads four different Golden Eagles who have posted a .300 or better batting average with at least 70 at bats.
Sandlin has started 21 games in centerfield and carries a .385 batting average with a homer and 13 RBI. Tim Lynch, the Golden Eagles first baseman, carries a .373 batting average and a team leading six home runs and 22 RBI.
As a team Southern Miss has belted 26 home runs while the Green Wave have launched 20 home runs so far this season.
The pitching matchup in Tuesday's game sends junior right-hander Houston Gates (0-0, 5.40 ERA) on the mound for the Golden Eagles. He'll be making his first starting assignment for Southern Miss while Tulane will send redshirt sophomore J.P. France (0-0, 4.11 ERA) against Southern Miss.
Following the Green Wave clash, Southern Miss returns home to open a three-game C-USA series with UTSA, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The games will start at 6 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday and 11 a.m. on Saturday.
