LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - Second graders in Anna Barrett's class are preparing for the Ready Common Core curriculum with the help of a MacBook, Apple TV and Chromebooks.
Barrett says she's thrilled the school has even more Chromebooks, and a wireless cart.
"We're very excited. Any type of technology that we can incorporate is always a positive. It gets the students engaged more," said Barrett.
Last year, the school's PTO donated a cart full of iPads. For 2016, the group donated an entire wireless cart complete with 30 Chromebooks, which allows students to login to their i-Ready accounts and access their lessons.
"These carts are delivered to each grade level hallway and in each classroom, at least five to six. Now with this increased cart of Chromebooks, we're allowed to expand that use," said Quarles Elementary Principal Dr. Jan Hansen.
Dr. Hansen says every teacher received a Macbook and Apple TV for their classroom, making teaching and learning more technology based.
"The growth that we've experienced has been phenomenal. That has been from the dedication from our teachers, the added technology base to enhance what they are trying to do and allow each student more individual time," said Dr. Hansen.
The Chromebooks provide interactive learning, immediate testing results and help customize a lesson based on a student's need.
"They amaze me everyday of what they can do. You just let them go. They probably know more about the technology than I do. They teach me something everyday," said Barrett.
Dr. Hansen says the new donation will also help more students in state tests.
