SLIDELL, LA (WLOX) - A Gautier man was killed Friday morning in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 near the state line bridge in Slidell, LA.
Officials said the crash happened shortly after 9:30 a.m.
LSP investigators said the man was driving westbound in a 2004 Mercedes-Benz when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center median and spun into the eastbound lanes.
LSP spokesman TFC Dustin Dwight said the man's car was hit by a 2014 Jeep driven by 22-year-old Jessica Sheffield, of Auburndale, FL.
Dwight said the man was critically injured in the crash, and he was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office.
Sheffield sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Oschner Medical Center Northshore.
Dwight said troopers do not believe impairment was a factor in the fatal crash, but the investigation is ongoing. As part of the investigation, blood samples were taken from both drivers for analysis. Those samples will be sent to the Louisiana State Crime Lab.
