The New Orleans Saints officially announced that they have re-signed quarterback Luke McCown to a two-year contract and signed free agent linebacker Nate Stupar to a three-year deal.
On Wednesday night the NFL Network reported that the Saints also signed 29-year-old linebacker James Laurinaitis. He confirmed the signing on Twitter late Wednesday.
Laurinaitis was released by the Los Angeles Rams in February and visited the Saints earlier this month.
The three-time All-American and Bronko Nagurski Trophy winner was a standout linebacker at Ohio State. He was selected by the Rams in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft.
In seven seasons he never missed a starting assignment and played in 112 games. In those games he piled up 853 tackles, 16.5 sacks and 10 interceptions.
McCown has been the Saints backup quarterback behind Drew Brees since 2013. He played in eight games in 2015 with one start and completed 32-of-39 passes for 335 yards and a 91.8 quarterback rating.
Nate Stupar has three years of NFL experience. He was a seventh round draft pick of the Oakland Raiders in 2012. He started three games for the Atlanta Falcons, Jacksonville Jaguars and San Francisco 49ers in 43 games. He has 30 career tackles (24 solo), one sack, two passes defensed, one fumble recovery returned for a touchdown and 29 special teams tackles.
Stupar was a four-year letterman at Penn State (2008-2011) and played in 52 career games for the Nittany Lions.
