SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - If you are planning to hit the beach, some water contact advisories have been lifted and some still remain in effect for the Mississippi Sound. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has lifted advisories for Bay St. Louis Beach from the box culvert to Ballantine Street, for Pass Christian East Beach from Espy Avenue to Hayden Avenue and for Gulfport Harbor Beach from 20th Avenue to Thornton Avenue. MDEQ says these waters are safe for swimming again.
However, the water contact advisories issued earlier for Lakeshore Beach from the Silver Slipper Casino to Pointset Avenue, for Buccaneer State Park Beach near State Park Road and for Gulfport Central Beach from Alfonso Drive to Arkansas Avenue remain in effect. MDEQ warns if you swim in these sections of the Mississippi sound, the current high bacteria levels mean you have a higher chance of getting sick.
MDEQ will lift these advisories when water samples show that levels are safe for human contact again.
