GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Ship Island Excursions will resume service to West Ship Island the weekend of March 19. On Saturday and Sunday, the ship will depart Gulfport at 9:00am and 12:00pm. Departure from Ship Island is scheduled for 2:30pm and 5:00pm.
Excursions will run during the week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; departing from Gulfport at 9:00am, and departing Ship Island at 2:30pm.
Tickets can be purchased at the boat dock and ticket office located on the west side of the Gulfport Yacht Harbor next to the lighthouse and Farmer's Market Pavilion.
All public facilities on the island will be open. Once on the island food service, and covered picnic areas will be available along with restrooms and showers. Tours of Ft. Massachusetts and special beach programs will be offered throughout the season.
Captain Louis Skrmetta said "visitors can expect to enjoy the beautiful natural beach and clear gulf waters when visiting the island." Skrmetta said he's expecting a strong tourism year on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
This year the ferry service will be celebrating 90 years, and the national park service is also celebrating 100 years.
