WADE, MS (WLOX) - We are learning more details about two men who had to be rescued from the banks of the Pascagoula River on Thursday morning.
Officials tell us there was no police chase, but the two men did in fact jump off the Roy Cumbest Bridge into the water about 25 feet below late Wednesday night.
According to officials with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department, the men were involved in a wreck on Wade Vancleave Rd. and walked a short distance to the bridge.
Authorities said something frightened the men, and that's when they jumped from the bridge. The two men, who have not been identified, then swam to the bank and spent the night underneath the bridge.
Sheriff's department officials said another driver spotted the men around 8:30 Thursday morning and called the authorities. Rescue personnel were dispatched and recovered both men by 9 a.m.
They were taken by ambulance to Singing River Hospital with non-life threatening conditions. No charges have been filed.
