Copy-JPD officer grazed by bullet has been identified, suspect still on run

JACKSON, MS (Mississippi News Now) - Jackson police officer Abe Gines was grazed by a bullet on Edgewood Terrace Drive early Wednesday morning.

According to Chief Lee Vance, Officer Gines responded to an armed robbery at the Edgewood Terrace Apartments around 6:15 a.m. Wednesday.

When Gines arrived on the scene, he entered the apartment and the suspect fired shots at him.

The officer was grazed by a bullet and returned fire.

The suspect fled the scene on foot, crashing through a back window with Officer Gines following in pursuit.

The suspect got away and is still on the run.

According to Chief Vance, Officer Gines has since been treated and released from an area hospital.

There is still an active search going on for the suspect.

Officer Vance describes him as a black male, close to 6 feet tall, wearing all black.
