There's a move on at the state capital to divert $50 million in BP recovery money away from the coast. The proposal is to pay for transportation improvements across the state.
We agree with local leaders who demand the vast majority of the money be spent here on the coast where the economic damage was done by the BP oil disaster.
We certainly understand why lawmakers from other parts of the state would love to have a third of the $150 million spent in their neighborhoods. But the damage was not there and to take the money is just plain wrong.
