HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

A plan to consolidate Harrison County youth court is moving forward.

Youth court judge Margaret Alfonso gave county supervisors a progress report Monday. The plan calls for moving the youth court and offices now located in Gulfport.

Those facilities would be moved to the former health department building in downtown Biloxi. That site is next door to the current juvenile detention center.

“We're making much progress with that. As you know, it would put us adjacent to the youth detention, which would mean detention and youth court would be on the same campus,” said Alfonso.

One part of the plan involves creating a fenced-in walkway for the youth offenders to walk between the courtroom and the juvenile detention facility.

Alfonso said that may require the City of Biloxi vacating a small portion of the street, which joins the two properties.
