HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - All lanes on I-10 are open following an early-morning accident in Hancock County on Sunday.

Both eastbound lanes near Waveland/Exit 2 were shut down following the two-vehicle wreck.

According to Cpl. Benjamin Seibert with Mississippi Highway Patrol, the wreck occurred around 6:50 a.m. when the vehicles collided in the median. Six people were involved, some with serious injuries.

Both eastbound lanes of the interstate were shut down for about an hour to allow for a helicopter to land so the victims could be transported to the hospital. One of the lanes was re-opened to allow traffic through while the other remained closed for an additional hour as crews cleaned up the road.

Westbound traffic was not affected.

Another wreck occurred earlier Sunday morning, also on I-10 in Hancock County. This one was near mile marker six. There has been no word on the extent of injuries in that wreck.

WLOX will continue to update this story.
