WLOX - It has been a beautiful weekend across South Mississippi, with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the 70s.
For the beginning of the week we will stay dry, but heavy showers are brewing in the seven day forecast.
For Tuesday we'll start off with very slim chances for a shower or two, but Wednesday through Friday a cold front will stall out to our north with an area of low pressure sitting just off to our west.
This looks to be the perfect storm for heavy rainfall across East Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi.
The heavy rain may bring accumulations between six to 10 inches for areas to the west of South Mississippi. For our area, we could see three to six inches with the majority of the rain falling on Friday.
This amount of rain in a short period of time brings the threat for flooding.
That being said, be sure to stay alert with the WLOX First Alert Weather Team throughout the week for updates to the forecast,
When the rain starts, remember to practice high water safety: do not try to drive through flooded roadways, stay out of flooded areas, and know the areas around you that are more prone to have flooding as an issue.
Another risk that may come on Thursday and Friday is the chance for strong storms, but the main threat still looks to be flooding.
We'll continue to have updates on this system as more develops throughout the week.
