BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Shocked family and friends gathered in front of the burnt shell of a home on Lameuse St. Thursday. They expressed relief that their loved ones, Johnny Ray Brown and his daughter Lakiesha Crawford, survived the overnight blaze.

According to Biloxi Fire Chief Joe Boney, firefighters got a call about the fire on Lameuse Street just after midnight. When they arrived, they found the small one-story home engulfed in flames.

It took firefighters about 30 minutes to get it under control.

Family members say the father smelled smoke and escaped through the back door, while his daughter made it out the front door.

Fire investigators will spend Thursday trying to determine what started the fire. While the family is okay, Chief Boney said the home is a total loss.
