BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Biloxi is moving forward with the process to connect Popp's Ferry Road and Highway 90. Later this month, the city will hold a public hearing for people to discuss the routes and weigh-in with their opinions.
Both proposals would extend Popp's Ferry Road between Oakmont Place and Beachview Avenue. One proposal puts the extension just west of the Maison D'Orleans Apartments. The other route places the extension east of the apartment complex, then ending at Highway 90 just east of Quality Inn.
The public meeting is set for March 22 between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. It will be held at the Donal Snyder Community Center located at 2520 Pass Road. A formal presentation is not planned. Attendees will be able to talk with engineers on the design team about the different proposals.
The roadway is expected to cost around $15 million with an anticipated 80 percent federal funding. Once funding is obtained, city officials are hoping to start construction in late 2018 or 2019. The construction work would take 12 to 18 months to complete.
