Pass Christian Pirates will try to close out Coach Kennedy's career with the 4A State Title

PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - Pass Christian head coach Buddy Kennedy says this is it. Once the season ends, he will officially retire. He told me the Pass Christian School Board accepted his resignation last Tuesday.

Kennedy is hoping he can lead his Pirates to the state championship before he steps aside. He led Pass Christian to the 2008-2009 state title.

Coach Kennedy said, "We set some pretty high goals.  At the beginning of the season we had our meeting with our seniors.  They've achieved many of those goals.  Still have some goals out there they're still working for.  Getting to Jackson was a big one, they have accomplished that.  Now that we have accomplished that our next goal is trying to get there and win to see if we can get to the state championship game."

Pass Christian has reeled-off 26 wins and 6 losses, and have won 20 of their last 22 game, thanks to three seniors.

6-3 forward Jaylen Peters is the Pirates top gun, bagging 13.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game.

"We're just taking it game-by-game, "stated Peters.  "Just one game at a time, trying to grind it out."

Guard Maliq Leaks can fill up the basket.  He's netting 10.9 points with 3.5 steals and 2.2 steals.

Leaks said, "We've just been working real hard.  Working on our offense and defense and trying to get to the state championship and win."

5-11 guard Aaron Whavers  gives the Pirates another offensive weapon....bagging 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2.1 steals an outing.

"Trying to get to that next level, "said Whavers.  "Winning the state championship would be something big for coach Kennedy.  This will be his last year.  Just got to come in focused and work hard every day."

It won't be easy when the Pirates battle Corinth on Thursday, but you can never count out Pass Christian. The 2015-16 season has been exciting for coach Kennedy.  Earlier this season he picked up career win 500.

The 2016 Class 4A state championship would put icing on the cake.
