BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

The region six science fair is underway at the MS Coast Convention Center in Biloxi. More than 900 students from dozens of schools are showing off their scientific skills.

The students come from Harrison, Hancock, Jackson, George and Stone counties. First graders through high school seniors are represented at the science fair.

Many of the projects are incredibly intricate and display skills that are far above the ages of some of the participants. One project is actually extracting DNA from strawberries with the use of household chemicals, to see if mold can be prevented. That's just one example of what can be found at the convention center.

The winners of the region six science fair will compete in the state science fair later this month in Jackson. Winners there will compete in the national science fair scheduled for Phoenix Arizona in May.
