SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - With the arrival of March next week, anglers in South Mississippi who target speckled trout have an extra incentive. And it's a great time to get kids involved in fishing.
The Yellow Mouth Fever Tournament begins March 5 and ends on May 14 with a $25 adult registration fee. Each adult paid registration includes a free kid's registration as well.
"We have more than $20,000 in prizes this year. We are looking for a great turnout and that includes the kids division. Plus, kids can fish for free. If you register as an adult, you get a kids registration too. We will have prizes for the kids as well," tournament spokesman David Bond said.
The tournament is open to fishing within all waters in Louisiana and Mississippi and all speckled trout entered must be 20 inches or larger.
Weigh stations included A&A Marine in Pass Christian, The Tackle Box in Gulfport and Sea 2 Swamp in Gautier.
"Anglers will be allowed to weigh one speckled trout over 20 inches per day. We made the minimum length 20-inches because we believe in conservation," Bond said.
