GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A new hotel is the latest addition to the planned Gulfport aquarium project.
The Gulfport Redevelopment Commission is seeking proposals for a developer to build a hotel on the west side of the aquarium property. Currently, an architectural team is creating plans for the aquarium project.
Plans are also moving forward to transform the old Gulfport library into a multi-modal transportation center. Those plans will compliment the new aquarium development.
Gulfport City Councilman Rusty Walker said "They're going to bring back the koi ponds, they're going to re-light it. It's going to have parks and fountains, green space and fountains. But it's also going to be intermodal, so a potential to have segway and bike rentals"
Coast Transit Authority Director Kevin Coggin is working on plans to transform the old library into a transportation center using a $7 million federal grant. Plans also call for building an overpass, across Hwy. 90, between the aquarium site and Jones Park.
