BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - Confusion in Bay St. Louis, over who city leaders want to see represent them on the Hancock County Port and Harbor Commission.
That uncertainty has led Governor Phil Bryant to put a hold on approving any appointment from the city.
Monday night, Businessman Danny Johnson asked the council to recommend him for the post to replace long-time Commissioner Robert Kane.
In January when Kane was up for reappointment, council members voted unanimously to recommend he remain and sent a letter to Governor Bryant with that recommendation.
However, in December the governor got another letter from Councilman Joey Boudin, recommending Johnson fill the seat.
The two letters with different picks gave the governor pause, and he put the Bay St. Louis appointment on hold until the council clarifies the confusion.
We spoke with Johnson Tuesday, who told us, "It may come down to a legal opinion."
Kane said he would respect the decision of the council and the governor to protect the integrity of the Port and Harbor Commission.
