Five Teachers Recognized by Hancock Bank

Hancock Bank recognized five South Mississippi educators that are making a difference in the lives of their students. On Monday Becky Duncan, Mary Edelen, Renee Hill, Grace Knochel and Sherry Ann Ladner were guests of honor at the seventh annual Leo W. Seal Teacher Awards Banquet in Gulfport. The award is given for teaching excellence and for individual contributions to education. The teachers were awarded trophies and one thousand dollars to help fund innovative classroom projects. Seventy-seven teachers were nominated for the award.

    Justin McMillian was on his morning jog near Paige Bayou Road in Vancleave when things took a sudden, violent turn. Officials say three pit bulls broke out of the fence where they were being kept and attacked him.

    Food vendors at Edgewater Mall had a bit of a panic Monday in the middle of the lunch rush. A power outage to the mall's west side shut down business for less than an hour.
