Grand Bature fire 90 percent contained; 4,246 acres affected

JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Fire Management Division has issued a final update on the Grand Bature fire. 

Lake Woodruff National Wildlife Refuge Manager Candice Stevenson issued the following statement:

 "The Grand Bature Fire is 4,246 acres and 90% contained. The type 3 incident management team will transfer operations to Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge’s fire staff based in Gautier, MS. The local U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service staff will continue to monitor and patrol the fire until it is contained."

Both the Alabama and Mississippi Forestry Commissions, as well as the Jackson County Mississippi, Office of Emergency Services and the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources, Grand Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, partnered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to fight the blaze.
