BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - One of the most recognizable names in competitive eating, Joey Chestnut, will bring his talents to South Mississippi to participate in the Silver Slipper World Meat Pie-Eating Championship on March 5.
One year ago, Boyd "Bayou Boyd" Bulot, a Bay St. Louis native, passed away. Bulot still holds the world meat pie eating record at 16 six-ounce pies in 10 minutes. The Major League Eating sanctioned competition will pay tribute to Bulot's legacy.
"Major League Eating is proud to see the return of the mighty meat pie to its slate of sanctioned championships," said MLE emcee Sam Barclay. "It is a truly noble food—and one that the new generation of pro eaters are looking forward to tackling in earnest."
Twelve elite competitive eaters will see how many Natchitoches Meat Pie Company meat pies they can put away in eight-minutes. $5,000 in cash prizes will be on the line.
Chestnut is the second ranked competitive eater in the world.
