Gulf Coast and Pearl River gain a share of first atop the MACJC South Division

It's going to go right down to the wire for the top spot in the MACJC South Division basketball race.

On Monday, the Gulf Coast Bulldogs (18-4, 9-4 South) defeated Hinds 84-80 in Utica and hold a tiebreaker over Jones and Pearl River with the final regular season game slated to tip-off Thursday night.

Gulf Coast began the night in a three-way tied for second.  When the final buzzer sounded, the Bulldogs knocked-off Hinds, Pearl River defeated East Central and Southwest upended Jones.

Six Gulf Coast players scored in double digits led by Deshawn Jones who netted 15.  Davion Cole-Johnson added 13, Maurice Stephens, Anfernee Hampton and Peyton Owen each scored 12, and Eliel Gonzalez ended play with 11 points.

Gulf Coast coach Wendell Weathers said, "I told them after the game if that's not incentive enough to get yourself ready to play, there's no reason to even talk about it.  We've worked our tails off the last four or five months and we're one game away.  If you can't motivate yourself to play that game, we probably don't deserved to be there."

Gulf Coast entertains Co-lin on Thursday in Perkinston on Senior Night.  The Bulldogs will be looking for revenge following a 105-101 overtime loss to the Wolves earlier this season.
