OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - The fate of a highly-debated leaning tree on Lovers Lane will be back on the table.
Leaders in Ocean Springs have been working to decide what will happen to the tree. The city decided on Feb. 2 to take down the tree, citing public safety concerns and noting that the tree caused delays for the fire department's ladder truck when traveling down the street.
On Friday, a resident of Ocean Springs filed a bill of exceptions with the Jackson County Circuit Clerk's office. The document is a legal appeal to the city's decision to chop down the tree.
Mayor Connie Moran's office says based on new information, Mayor Moran has submitted a veto on the city's decision to cut the tree. Leaders say a video shows the city's fire truck driving down the road and under the tree with no problems.
The city is set to consider this new information and other options for the tree at Tuesday's board of Aldermen meeting.
