JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - A forest fire in Jackson County is now threatening several homes and the Grand Bay NERR facility. Firefighters from Mississippi and Alabama have been working to contain the blaze since it started around 4pm Thursday.
Officials with the Forts Lake Fire Department said the flames have already scorched several hundred acres from Bayou Cumbest to Bayou Heron. The flames are steadily moving through the woods southwest of the Grand Bay Wildlife Refuge.
Firefighters with the Sandhill Crane Refuge and the Grand Bay Fire Department are also working the fire.
