LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - The push is on in Long Beach to help the city's school system in a unique way. Alderman Gary Ponthieux is asking those who live in the city to apply for a special car tag, highlighting the Long Beach school system.
The drive began Thursday at a college and career fair on the high school campus.
"We have 3,200 students in our schools right now," said Ponthieux. "If the parents were to purchase a tag, that would give the school an extra $76,800 a year."
Each special car tag would cost an additional $31 to purchase. Of that amount, the school system would receive $24.
