Biloxi Bishop Roger Morin to retire

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Biloxi Bishop Roger Morin plans to submit his letter of resignation to the Vatican. Director of Communications for the Catholic Diocese of Biloxi, Terry Dickson, said all bishops must submit resignation letters when they reach 75 years old. Bishop Morin will turn 75 on March 7th.

"He has to wait until the Pope accepts his resignation letter," said Dickson. "There isn't a time frame of how long that could take to happen."

Until the Vatican accepts the resignation, Dickson said Morin will continue to serve as Bishop.

Bishop Morin says he will celebrate the 11 a.m. mass at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Cathedral in Biloxi on March 6th. Following the mass, there will be a reception that anyone is invited to attend.

Morin was tapped as Biloxi's third Bishop in 2009.
