LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) -

Today is the beginning of Lent. It's a time for most Christians to reflect and repent during the days leading up to Easter.

Two churches in Long Beach are offering an alternative idea for those who can't make it to an Ash Wednesday service today. It's called "Ashes to Go."

Clergy from First United Methodist and Grace Lutheran churches will be set up in the parking lot near the John Simpson pier from 6:30 a.m. until 8:30 a.m. Anyone is invited to stop by for a few minutes and receive ashes.

This is the third year these churches have offered "Ashes to Go."

The Mississippi State Legislature is back in session and as usual a fight is brewing over money. Still unresolved is what to do with  $750 million coming from BP over 17 years because of the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil disaster. To the people here on the coast, there is no question that all of the money should be spent on projects in South Mississippi. But so far, the powers in Jackson and the rest of the state won't agree to that.
