PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - As friends and family members mourn the deaths of two people killed shortly after the Pass Christian parade, efforts to convince witnesses in the deadly shooting to come forward have increased.
Any hope of trying to explain senseless violence to Thaddeus Thomas' children was lost. Thomas tried to give his family some comfort by leaving tokens of love at the street corner near where his friend, Isaiah Major, lost his life.
"It was tragic. My whole family just took it hard," said Thomas. "My kids, they took it hard. They're taking it rough right now....But I've got to be strong for my family. It's hard for me, it's real hard."
Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers is working with Pass Christian Police to bring justice to those responsible for killing Major and Carlos Bates. Crime Stoppers is offering an up to $1,000 reward for the tip that leads to an arrest.
"Every crime that happens there are people that's hurting. There are a lot of families and a lot of friends involved. This is a beautiful area of Pass Christian, and you just don't think about thins like this happening when you're going to a family parade," said Coordinator Lori Massey
Officials say even people who weren't at the parade may have helpful trinkets of information.
"People hear things on the street all the time, and they might not know if it's correct or not," Massey said. "Call Crime Stoppers. Tell police what you know and let them decide if it's credible information or not."
Thomas says he and Major worked construction together, and their children played together. He hopes the community will come together to help.
"I think they should come forward because anything can happen to anybody. What if that was your brother. Your cousin. Your father. You should feel like you've got to come forward and say something. This has got to stop," Thomas said.
