PICAYUNE, MS (WLOX) - You can't celebrate Mardi Gras without a tasty King Cake on the table.
Workers at the world famous Paul's Pastry in Picayune have been busy this Mardi Gras holiday season, preparing thousands of those fruit filled cakes around the clock for the past few months.
The business shifted into high gear over the weekend to meet a nationwide demand on Fat Tuesday.
"During Mardi Gras season we make between 50,000 and 65,000 just during Mardi Gras time so it takes a lot of organization, said owner Sherri Thigpen. "This past weekend we made 7,000 King Cakes and today we're going to be shipping about 700 all over the United States in all 50 states. One is going to North Pole Alaska even."
The baking madness won't stop there though. At Paul's Pastry, you can order King Cakes year round. The owner said they will be making Valentine King Cakes in the coming days.
