HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Harrison County Board of Supervisors is doing its part to help a major project at the Port of Gulfport.

On Monday, the board passed a memorandum of understanding to grant tax exemptions for this project in the future, totaling as much as $38,000.

The three board members in attendance all voted in favor of the measure.

"What we're agreeing to is future tax exemptions for 10 years, excluding school taxes," said Harrison County Supervisor Marlin Ladner.

The port project is also receiving a 20-year income tax exemption.

The deal, which was signed on Monday by Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant, is expected to bring 1,000 jobs to the coast. It also represents a $68 million investment to the Port of Gulfport.
