NEW ORLEANS, LA (WLOX) - Dennis Allen has officially been named the Saints defensive coordinator on a day when head coach Sean Payton added five new coaches to his staff.
Dan Campbell is the Saints assistant head coach and tight ends coach. Campbell served as interim head coach of the Miami Dolphins for the final 12 games of the 2015 season. If the name sounds familiar it should. Campbell signed as a free agent with the Saints in 2009. He played tight end for 11 seasons in the NFL before joining the coaching ranks.
Ronald Curry has been named as an offensive assistant. Curry has 10 years of NFL experience, seven as a player and three as a coach. He spent the last three seasons on the San Francisco 49ers staff. curry was a dual threat athlete as a quarterback and wide receiver at the University of North Carolina. He spent two seasons as the starting point guard for the Tarheels before giving up basketball.
Peter Giunta is the Saints senior defensive assistant. He brings 34 years of coaching experience to New Orleans.
Aaron Glenn has been added to the Saints staff as a secondary coach. He was a 15-year NFL veteran and played with the Saints in 2008. Glenn ended his NFL career with 661 tackles, 41 interceptions, with six returned for touchdowns, five forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He was a three-time Pro Bowl selection.
Joe Lombardi has become the Saints quarterbacks coach. He spent five seasons with New Orleans as quarterback coach and two as an offensive assistant. Drew Brees enjoyed some of the most prolific seasons in NFL history for a passer under Lombardi and established an NFL record 54-game streak with at least one touchdown pass from 2009-2012. He's the grandson of legendary coach Vince Lombardi.
Brian Young has been named as a pass rush specialist, Brendan Nugent an offensive assistant and Dan Roushar will serve as offensive line coach.
