PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) -

Officials in Pascagoula have moved on to the second phase of the Point Park renovation, and recently announced the temporary closure of part of the area.

Boat launches at Point Park will close to the public on Jan. 28, and will remain closed through mid-April.

Phase one of the construction, which was finished in 2014, transformed the park into a usable, attractive area that includes a tiered amphitheater.

“The improvements are greatly needed to continue to enhance the experience for those who use these amenities,” said Parks & Recreation Director, Darcie Crew.

According to a press release, 'improvements will be made to all four launches. The finger piers in between each launch and the pier on the south side of the launches will be replaced. The portion of the pier on the north side of launches that accesses the fishing pier will also be replaced, but the fishing pier itself will not be renovated in this project.'

Point Park will remain accessible during the $295,471.40 renovation, and alternate launches will be available at River Park, Lighthouse Park, the Old Spanish Fort and Ladner Road.
