Local high school soccer have more success in first round playoff action

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - St. Patrick head coach Mario Camps has proven he's one of the top coaches in the state.  Camps has his Fighting Irish in the hunt for another possible state title in the Class 1A-2A-3A ranks.

St. Patrick kicked off the first round of the playoffs at home against Wesson.  The Fighting Irish overcame rainy and cold conditions to advance into the second round with an impressive 9-1 victory.

Eiland Stebly had an outstanding night.  The junior was unstoppable netting five goals before the game ended.  Senior Eric Million added two goals.

Resurrection also ended up under the win column in the 1A-2A-3A boys soccer playoffs.  The Eagles defeated Franklin County 2-0.

The Gulfport Admirals traveled to Pearl and the Class 6A game turned into a defensive showcase.  Gavin Taylor proved to be the hero for the Admirals as he bagged the games only goal to lead Gulfport into the second round.

Brandon eliminated George County 4-1.

The Gulfport Lady Admirals dominated Terry at the Herb Wilson Soccer Complex.  Before the final second ticked off, Gulfport posted a 7-0 victory.  Alex Arnoult had a big night for the Lady Admirals, netting four goals.  She started off her scoring spree in the 34th minute of the first half with a solid kick that hit the Terry keeper and flew into the net.  13 minutes later Arnoult used her left foot, a rocket shot that exploded past the diving keeper and Gulfport was off and running.  The Lady Admirals improve to 16-2-3.

The Biloxi Lady Indians traveled to Pearl and enjoyed a bus ride back to the coast with a 2-0 win.  Biloxi will entertain Ocean Springs in the second round on Saturday.  The Lady Greyhounds eliminated Oak Grove 3-0 Monday night.

Due to the weather, the Class 5A boys and girls games at Brookhaven were postponed until. The Pascagoula boys and the Long Beach girls will square-off against home standing Brookhaven on Thursday.

Class 4A boys, East Central knocked-off Northeast Lauderdale 2-1.  West Lauderdale ousted Poplarville 12-1.  That sets up a confrontation between the Pass Christian Lady Pirates at West Lauderdale on Saturday.
