BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Biloxi High School Indians rallied together Saturday morning to raise money for the baseball team.
The team set up tables filled with various items provided by parents and other community members across from Popp's Ferry Park.
Coaches say the money raised will go toward buying the team new equipment and uniforms, as well as taking care of the baseball field. Although the team doesn't have an estimate on how much was raised, they say the event exceeded all expectations.
"Just unbelievable turnout from the community. We started this because, we appreciate all the city's help and the school's help, but every once in a while you have to help yourself," said yard sale organizer, Robert Collier. "We all got together, me and the parents, and said we're going to have a yard sale and car washes and not keep going to the tax payers for money."
The Biloxi High baseball team holds several other fundraising events throughout the year including a golf tournament in the summer.
