USS Jackson donates magnolia tree to City of Gulfport

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - The City of Gulfport will plant a large magnolia tree at Jones Park Tuesday.

Gulfport officials say the tree planting ceremony will start at 10 a.m. at the 20th Avenue entrance of Jones Park. The ceremony will provide an opportunity to plant the tree and recognize its significance.

The magnolia was donated by navy ship USS Jackson. In December, the USS Jackson became the first ship to ever be commissioned in Gulfport.
