BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The beaches have reopened in South Mississippi and with pleasant temperatures Sunday afternoon, some families decided to take advantage with a nice stroll in the water.
The red tide left the beaches closed for the better part of a month. Residents say they're glad to see the beaches reopened, even if there are still some signs of tide remaining along the beach.
"It's a good thing that they had opened back up again when we decided to get here," said Joe Wengler. "We brought our friend out here to the beach, she's here visiting from Texas, and we were walking down the beach and my wife noticed a bunch of dead fish in the sand and we actually didn't realize there had just been a red tide."
The beaches officially reopened coast-wide, Friday morning.
