BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

Every paint brush stroke brings the VFW Post a step closure to its new look. The college students behind the brushes say they couldn't be more enthusiastic about doing the work.

"It's a great way to use our time away on break to give back," said Mark Zemanek, an Ohio State University graduate student.

Zemanek is one of 10 students from Ohio State University's Buckeye Serve winter break program who choose South Mississippi to give time and man power.

"We're working with the VFW here, it's a great opportunity for us to come in and help them. Veterans have given so much to us to help them make it bright and happy again," explained Zemanek.

The students are doing work post 3253 couldn't afford to do.

"It's meant a lot and it's going to save the post a lot of money, and you just don't know how much we appreciate them doing this on their time," said Bobby Gavagnie, The Post Adjutant.

Participants also gave helping hands to Habitat Bay-Waveland to complete its mission.

"The Ohio State Buck-eyes have worked with Habitat I think for three years maybe longer, so they've been an instrumental part of continuing the recovery here for Habitat Bay-Waveland," explained Holly Ladner, of Habitat Bay-Waveland.

The Ohio State Buckeye's are planning to send another group to serve next year.

On Friday the students will sight see in New Orleans before returning home later that evening.
