High school basketball competition at it's best... returns to the Mississippi Coast Coliseum on January 30...a full day and night of Hoopsfest 2016.
For over 20 years Hoopsfest has become a prime-time high school basketball event inside the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. 14 teams will compete in this year's competition beginning 10 a.m. on January 30th with the last game slated to tip-off at 7...followed by the three-point "Hot Shots" competition and the "Bring the House Down" slam dunk contest.
Mississippi Coast Coliseum executive director Matt McDonel said, "22-years of high school basketball in the Coliseum has been mighty special. Just two years ago we had a young man by the name of Devin Booker who we were all excited to see him play here at the Coliseum and two years later he's playing in the NBA.
We always prided ourselves that you see tomorrow's college and NBA stars right here at Hoopsfest and that's literally true."
Pass Christian head coach Buddy Kennedy says coast teams are highly competitive and will match up well against out-of-state teams.
"We've brought in a real good Provine team from Jackson this year that I think is going to give us a lot of good competition, "said Kennedy. "Riverside Academy out of New Orleans is coming over and they always have a real solid team. So, I think from top to bottom from morning till night, we're going to have a lot of good games."
