A plume of black smoke hovering over Woolmarket on Wednesday afternoon caught the eye of Biloxi firefighters. When they investigated the smoke, they discovered a large barn on Hollee Drive engulfed in flames.

“It was a huge black plume of smoke, and you could easily see it,” said Jeff Merrill, Biloxi Fire Department Deputy Chief of Operations.  “The barn is a total loss. It was a huge fire.”

There are no fire hydrants in that area of the city, so the Biloxi Fire Department had to use two tanker trucks to shuttle water to the fire and requested help from Harrison County Fire Service to bring in a third tanker.

Firefighters got the blaze under control quickly, and it was not in danger of spreading to the home on the property.

We’re told the two horses that are kept in the barn were put out by a caretaker in the morning before the flames sparked.
