Juvenile dolphin stuck in Henderson Point canal

A juvenile dolphin seen swimming the past few days in a canal at Henderson Point, is out of its habitat and likely in trouble. That's the assessment of Dr. Moby Solangi, the executive director of the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies.

In an exclusive report, Steve Phillips joined Dr. Solangi and his team as they surveyed the waters and took a close-up look at the six foot dolphin.

"It's definitely out of its habitat and the low salinity and cold waters pose a real threat to this animal," said Dr. Solangi, after spending about 30 minutes on a boat in the canal waters, watching the dolphin and taking environmental readings such as water temperature, salinity and dissolved oxygen.

He said the IMMS team will monitor the animal for the next couple days, but it appears it will have to be rescued.
